Roy and Phyllis Baker

Roy and Phyllis Baker started Appalachian Mountain Cabins in 2001, after Roy retired from the Eastman Company in Kingsport, Tennessee where he worked for 30 years. They helped construct each cabin personally, finishing the Mountain Retreat and Deer Meadow cabins and beginning rentals in the fall of 2001. In the years that followed, they continued developing their secluded mountain property into a scenic hillside retreat, eventually adding two more brand new, hand-built structures and expanding their offering to the four unique cabins available now. Roy and Phyllis still oversee the day to day operations of the rental cabins with the help of their daughter, Ramona Taylor. Roy Baker is a deacon at Thomas Village Baptist Church in Duffield and a member of the Gideon’s International. He has also served to increase awareness of the beautiful Southwest Virginia Mountains and to promote tourism to this scenic area as: • Scott County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors • Scott County Tourism Committee for 2 years • Scott County Liaison to the Heart of Appalachia
